The Verdict: Cancer. Again.

A few days ago, Mom must have been having thoughts of mortality again, because she arranged for me to have power of attorney over some funds she has in an account in Germany “in case anything happens to me”.  She also mailed me her “UBC [USB] stick”, which has her notes on her life story, illness, and, not least, recipes.

Today she Facebooked this:

Dr. just called with Pathology report. Yes. It was cancer but he’ll send it off to Mayo clinic as he disagrees with pathologist [who erred in one of his key premises, that Mom’s lung cancer was her “primary” cancer, when her primary is the one from ten years ago:  ovarian]. It was “clean” without any others in there.

And she sent me a message from there too:

Just got report and it’s what I knew. Will now start the ‘Gerson method’ for sure. Need a different juicer. Mine’s crushing and not expelling the juice.– Will you start checking on flight cost? Where are we starting? French side? It’s the prettiest. :-)

In other words, she’s as determined as ever.  So here’s where things stand:

1.  We expect a report on the actual kind of cancer, and type of cells, from the Mayo Clinic within several days’ time.

2.  She’s throwing herself into the Gerson Method.  We’re looking into juicers that actually facilitate the whole point of juicing – at costs of around $1000 on eBay, but stay tuned to see who – we humble deserving sorts or the faceless eBay masses — wins the next auction (I’ll even take bets on who wins the betting).  Pricey, but we think it’s worth it.  Penny-wise, pound-foolish – and Mom’s pounds, so to speak, make up some very precious cargo!

3.  Mom is now clear that she wants to spend six weeks in Europe, walking as much of the Camino as she’s able, and then – and this thrilled me to hear it, Alp-lover that I am – reward herself with a few days in some Alpine spa, a la the old-fashioned “rest cures” popularized in Nobelist Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain.*

4.  I’m researching online and asking Don Julio, our Man on the Ground, what city to fly into, where to begin, what to bring, what it should weigh (a critical consideration), and so on.  As I do that, I’ll build our Resources page . . .

* Except that, if I recall correctly, Mann’s hero, Hans Castorp, a symbol of [pre-WWI Germany? European bourgeois society?] was sort of in love with being sick and dying. Though he visited the Swiss sanatorium of the title (based on the famous Waldsanatorium in Davos, Switzerland) only to see his tubercular cousin, his health got mysteriously worse and worse, so that he spent seven years there before being called up for World War I and, presumably, his end.  Mom is the anti-Hans.

  1. I am reading the book and not all the websites. I would not do several coffee enema’s as I am not stage V or VI. These people (with real names and places) had been given up after radiation/chemo therapy and at that point had nothing to lose (except their lives). Their success rate is higher and less harmful than a lot of then toxins.
We know what the distractors say. (You’ve seen “A Beautiful Truth’ which also was based on the Gerson Therapy.) I a still doing ‘conventional medicine, which definitely has its place. I am just NOT doing chemo where it won’t help. At the same time, I saw a German documentary about the Tumor Clinic in Heidelberg and their concept of how to deal with cancer. They use the patients bloodtest and genetic markers to look for a cause and do not merely treat the symptoms.

  2. Oh and I did not feel mortality calling. Just my Notary and that was co-incidental. The UBC stick has my book notes on it. I wanted for you to read them and see if this is what would be interesting. Recipes will follow.
Since I am not at any horrid stage yet, I still have time to select a course of action. By the way the tumor was 12 mm last measuring in March and only 9mm when it got plucked out. So. It decreased with nothing but change of lifestyle. I know the hecklers will say, oh what’s an itty, bitty 3 mm?? Well, a lot from my point of view.

  3. Amazing that the tumor was shrinking due to your lifestyle changes. You are an inspiration!!! I think 3mm is relevant and important, coming from someone who had a softball size tumor cut out of my abdomen – Melanoma.

Which leads to the question, will you be able to determine if the cells removed are lung cancer or metastisized (sp?) ovarian??

Let me know when you are up for another batch of Bavarian Slims!!

    • I will have another CA125 (cancer marker test) next month and we’ll see what the ‘blood’ says. Although never an exact tool, it’s the only on we have and have had since the last time. This whole experience seems always like a crap-shoot. — Thanks though for the cheerleading for my 3mm loss. Greatly appreciated.

    • I didn’t read your post correctly due to my drugged state. I am so sorry that you had such a scare as well. I hope all is well with you now?
As soon as we have the test back from mayo we will know ‘from hence’ it came.
I just need to know why I have it again. What had gone wrong or would I need to do to change, in addition what I’ve already done.
(I will bake more Bavarian Slims the next few days as people are calling for more….)

  4. Damn right–I’m the Anti Hans. He sounds terribly depressed and pityful. (Seven years in a Sanatorium???) Was he rich, too?

  5. I hope you do try the Gerson, even if you can’t do all the enemas, etc…at least the jucing parts & the dietary parts. Maybe you could keep the juices down if you didn’t do all the enemas?? It seems like your body reacts well to all the healing that you are doing-just that you have to be on a “healing” train all the time. Heart goes out to you & your son and sending you hugs.

  6. Mom’s dedication to changes in eating habbits only goes to show what we need to do to educate oursleves for us and our children. I feel like there is a conspiracy here in America with the medical rehlm and fast food places! The worse we eat the fatter we get, the worse we feel and the sicker we get…so who benefits? The medical world. All they want to do is write scripts for pill after pill after pill! No “real” treatment or education! We learn as a child “you are what you eat”! What an important phrase that no one to this day really pays attention to!

  7. Hey. Wow. Daughter of mine. Where are you that you’re reading these posts? Are you doing these changes, too? I love you, your comments and your loving caring.
